16: Be There（生者への讃歌）
Gojyo
remembered Gono’s words about his red hair and eyes and hoped to save Gono in
time…
Gono
was still very weak from his injuries. Holding a pocket watch, he remembered
Kana and hoped to bury her body soon. Then, a demon shown up and attacked him.
Meanwhile, Sanzo had a hunch that Gono would be going to the 100 Eye Devil’s
castle. Though he had no idea what punishment Gono would have to face, he still
had to obey orders from the 3 Buddhas. Gojyo vowed to not to let Gono die since
he was the only one who had the same opinion about his red hair & eyes. He
knew that Sanzo already knew about his background from the colour of his hair
& eyes. Sanzo replied that although Gojyo was half human half demon, must he
always think that blood was the only thing in the blood that was red in colour.
His words shocked Gojyo. Then, he realized that he had been longing to be saved
from his curse of half demon half human. Suddenly, Goku smelt blood.
The demon (a survivor of the Tori family) wanted to make Gono suffer for
killing his family and taking everything away from him. Surprisingly, Gono
agreed, dug his fingers into his right eye and said life didn’t matter to him
anymore. Luckily, Goku knocked Gono down before he gorged out his eye. Goku said
Gono had beautiful eyes and should not destroy. Sanzo appeared and said that
though blood was the colour of concession, his death wouldn’t change anything.
Gojyo agreed and repeated Sanzo’s words about retribution. Upon hearing this,
Gono shot the demon with Sanzo’s gun. Then, Sanzo said he would accompany Gono
to bury his wife just as long as he won’t run away. Gono willingly obliged.
Sadly, the castle of the 100 Eye Devil was burnt down by someone a few days.
Gono was deeply distraught. Gojyo asked Sanzo to chant some sutras. Sanzo
replied that he would do so but only for the living. As the sun rose, the
foursome remembered each of their past, Goku’s imprisonment in Mt. Gogyo, the
death of Gojyo’s stepmother and the disappearance of Sha Jien, Gono’s loss
of Kana and Sanzo’s loss of his beloved teacher, Komyo Sanzo.
Some time later, Gojyo was in his town, wandering in the marketplace when he bumped into Gono, Goku & Sanzo. Later, Gojyo was told that the 3 Buddhas had pardoned Gono and had given him a new name – Hakkai. The foursome then decided to have drink together and even spoke of traveling together. With that, their destinies were sealed. top
Under
the unbearable heat of the sun, Goku & Gojyo were heavily bickering with
each other. Then, the foursome came across a demoness who asked them to take her
to Toufugai city before she fainted…
Hakkai, Goku & Gojyo were very uncertain of taking a demoness with them.
Sanzo said that he sensed no malice or hostility from her; besides, they had no
choice since they were heading towards Toufugai City themselves. They continued
to drive on till they reached a cliff. The demoness awoke and said the city was
located at the bottom of the cliff. Sanzo told Hakkai to continue driving
despite Gojyo’s loud protests. As soon as the foursome reached the bottom (all
safe and alive), the demoness instructed them to meet her at the tower once they
entered the city’s gates.
Meanwhile, in Botou Castle, a displeased Dr Hwang was arguing with Dr Ni for
not informing Gyokumen Koushu about the hidden city in the desert. Dr Ni
rebutted her with very sarcastic and insulting remarks.
Inside Toufugai City, the foursome saw the entire place flooded with demons
all turned to stone statues. Sanzo reached out and touched one of the statues.
Instantly, it crumbled into dust, shocking the foursome. Then, they heard the
demoness’ voice coming from the tower. The demoness told them they had to
undergo a trial and she would only reveal the truth to the one who would
survive. Hakkai, Goku & Gojyo heard a mysterious sound and were turned into
stone statues. Sanzo, totally taken back, nearly touched them but stopped at the
remembrance of the stone statue crumbling to dust. He cursed and demanded the
demoness to explain. The demoness finally introduced herself as Kouru, a servant
of Wuhan, who prophesized a human being would come and rescue them in their most
desperate hours (sounds very familiar, doesn’t it?). In order not to be
deceived by those who entered the city, they would be given a trial. If they
were demons, they would turn into stone statues. Whereas, humans would not.
A long time ago, the city was a peaceful place till a strange fog came
and made everyone, especially the demons, berserk and attacked one another.
Sanzo explained that the fog was the cause of the revival of Gyumao in Tenjiku.
While Kouru brought Sanzo to Wuhan’s chamber, she explained that the veil
she wore protected her from losing her humanity. With it, she could protect the
others, particularly the old and young, who wanted to live in peace and harmony.
Sanzo found it a joke since the ‘peace and harmony’ had a terrible price to
pay for. At Wuhan’s chamber, Sanzo was rather surprised to find that Wuhan was
already a dead man. Using the last of his powers with Kouru’s veil, Wuhan’s
soul was able to say his final wish. He wished Sanzo to protect the city. Sanzo
smirked, knowing that Wuhan was simple a selfish person. As soon as Wuhan
vanished away, the city started to fall apart.
The city started to fall apart and everything & everybody was in chaos.
Kouru herself was panicking at the loss of Wuhan till Sanzo slapped her and
harshly told her to face reality. Kouru gained composure and decided to seal
Toufugai City. A bright light came and swallowed the entire city.
In the end, the city was sealed inside a mini glass ball.
Strangely, Hakkai, Goku & Gojyo could not remember a single thing at all but soon things went back to normal. In the midst of Goku & Gojyo’s bickering, Sanzo threatened to turn them into stone statues. Goku & Gojyo stared at Sanzo completely puzzled. top

Reports of missing
demon civilians were intensely increasing, Yaone insisted on investigating the
cause. Kougaji reluctantly agreed and strictly ordered Yaone to return with her
reports. Nothing more and nothing less…
Under the dreadful heat of the sun, Goku & Gojyo were bickering with
each other as usual. Halfway of their bickering, the foursome noticed a troop of
soliders marching. Hakkai recognized them as the Anti-Demon Military Force, Fang
Lone. This military force was created by villagers and townspeople in their
strive to eliminate demons. Then, one solider ran towards them. It was Gojyo
& Hakkai’s friend, Tonpu. After a mini chitchat, Tonpu agreed to meet them
at a bar in the next town.
Yaone was already late for her reporting time. Kougaji (together with
Dokugakuji & Lilin) immediately set out. As he feared, Yaone was indeed
captured by the Fang Lone Military.
As agreed upon, the foursome caught up with Tonpu who told them that the
military was planning their secret weapon. In addition, they had captured a
demoness. As he described her, Hakkai believed the demoness to be Yaone. Later,
Sanzo warned Hakkai that if he wished to rescue Yaone, he might end up fighting
with Tonpu. Hakkai said he was prepared for this. Gojyo & Goku eagerly
joined in. Sanzo sarcastically said they had to rescue her tonight since they
had 2 idiots who would stand out like sore thumbs (guess who was Sanzo referring
to.)
Late at night, the foursome sneaked into the camp. However, Kougaji started
attacking the whole place with his fireballs. Hakkai rescued Yaone but he bumped
into Tonpu, who was very shocked to see him. After injuring Hakkai, Tonpu
emotionally demanded to know which side Hakkai was on – humans or demons?
Hakkai replied that he’s on neither side. He rescued Yaone because he wanted
to.
Suddenly, a huge centipede merged out of the ground. The commander laughed
because he had created it through the blood of a thousand demons. Like the blood
would change a human into a demon, so would an insect. Sanzo quietly commented
on who was the real demon in this situation. As Kougaji, Lilin & Goku fought
with the demon centipede, Hakkai saved Tonpu from being smashed to bits. Tonpu,
very confused, asked Hakkai for his reasons. Hakkai answered he’s on neither
side and besides; Tonpu deliberately missed his internal organs. In mid-air,
Hakkai released a huge energy ball and destroyed the demon-centipede, praying
that the souls of the 1000 demons would rest in peace.
Showing her gratitude, Yaone treated Hakkai’s wounds. Kougaji was saying
his ‘when we meet the next time’ talk till the bored Gojyo interrupted him.
Sanzo wisely said that deciding one’s friends and enemies was something not
determined by others but up to oneself instead. top

Episode
19: Don’t Go Alone
At a hill, 4 demonesses said they had no choice but to attack the foursome. Goku asked why…
A
day earlier, the foursome was in their usual habit (Goku & Gojyo bickering,
Hakkai driving the jeep & Sanzo smoking and trying to keep his cool before
he exploded) until they met 4 beautiful demonesses – Shunfa, Shafa, Toufa and
Chuufa. The foursome and the 4 demonesses settled at a restaurant where they had
quite a lively conversation. However, the foursome didn’t touch any of the
food. After they departed, Sanzo warned the rest not to be with them. As he was
talking, some life-threatening incidents happened (like explosions and things
falling off the roof). Gojyo & Goku laughed it off, claiming that these
incidents were purely coincidences.
An
unknown demon threatened to kill Shunfa & her sisters if they fail to kill
Sanzo again. Like they promised, he would leave Shunfa’s body as soon as she
completed her end of the bargain.
While
Goku & Hakkai went shopping, they bumped into Toufa & Chuufa. At the
same time, Gojyo bumped into Shafa. Later, Hakkai, Goku, Toufa & Chuufa were
at a restaurant, having their late midnight snack. Soon, Toufa & Goku fell
asleep. Chuufa took out her dagger but hesitated.
Then, Hakkai returned and asked Chuufa to join him for a drink. At
somewhere else, Gojyo was about to kiss Shafa but stopped, saying he won’t do
it if she’s unwilling. Shafa watched Gojyo walking away, still holding her
dagger behind her back. As for Shunfa, she went to find Sanzo who coldly told
her to leave and stay far away from them as much as possible. Shunfa found it
impossible since she had only one path. Sanzo interrupted and objected her way
of thinking (After all, who said that there must be one path?). Upon this,
Shunfa thanked him and left.
Soon,
Shafa caught up with Toufa & Chuufa. Like her, they were having difficulties
in killing Sanzo & the rest. They highly doubted that the demon would leave
Shunfa as promised. In the end, they decided to save her no matter what.
The
next day, the foursome was leaving the town when Shunfa, Chuufa, Toufa and Shafa
appeared and attacked them. During the fight, Hakkai found a parasite demon
inside Shunfa’s body. Unfortunately, the parasite demon was infused with
Shunfa’s body to the point that it’s impossible to remove it without killing
the host. To make things worse, the parasite demon had passed its spores on
Chuufa, Toufa and Shafa’s bodies. Sanzo had no choice but to use his Sutras of
Heaven & Earth. He was about to shoot them but Goku stopped him, begging him
not to do it. Sanzo coldly ignored him and shot them.
The parasite demon was killed and the souls of Shunfa, Chuufa, Toufa & Shafa thanked the foursome for freeing them. On the hill were 4 crosses. Goku fell on his knees and wept bitterly. top

Gyokumen Koshu had decided that Kougaji should be charged with collecting
the 5 Sutras of Heaven and Earth only while she deal with Sanzo’s party.
Kougaji forcefully agreed and took Dokugaji with him. Before they left,
Dr Ni told Kougaji not to lose those who were important to him...
While traveling in the hot desert, the foursome managed to find shelter in a
town. From there, they had learnt that a demoness that lived underneath the
desert had eaten up a man also named Sanzo. Genjo Sanzo decided to pay her
visit, as she would probably have one of the 5 Sutras of Heaven & Earth. In
the desert, the foursome were caught in a quicksand and buried alive. However,
Hakkai managed to let his pet dragon, Hakuryu escape.
Sanzo awoke and found himself on a bed, unable to move. The demoness entered
and said that she had immobilized Sanzo. He shouldn’t bother to kill her since
she became an immortal after eating the flesh of a Sanzo years ago. Then she
began to taunt Genjo Sanzo about his appearance and his beliefs as a Sanzo. In
her opinion, Genjo was just a mere pathetic human and nothing more. Meanwhile,
Goku, Hakkai & Gojyo found themselves in prison that was soon flooded with
poisonous scorpions. Having no choice, they broke through the walls, Hakkai was
very uncertain about the consequences of their actions.
In the desert, Kougaji & Dokugaji found Hakuryu lying in the sand,
unconscious.
The demoness was so absorbed in taunting Sanzo that she allowed him to be
freed from his immobility. Angered, Sanzo thrashed her up with his turn in
taunting her about her claim as an immortal since immortals shouldn’t feel any
physical pain. Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo entered and were shocked to see Sanzo so
violent. Goku kicked him and told him to stop for Sanzo wasn’t himself. Sanzo
hotly replied who should he be. Goku replied that the Sanzo he always knew would
be hitting him with the white fan and scold him ‘baka saru (stupid monkey)’.
With that answer, Sanzo composed himself and asked about the other sanzo’s
sutras. The demoness replied that
she had placed it inside the cupboard.
As soon as Sanzo turned his back, the demoness jumped up and slashed him on
the back. Laughing, she said she had already inserted poison into him and he
would die within minutes.
Just then, the ceiling began to crack and sand began to pour in. top
