Episode 31: Ambition(神々の驕り)

A group of soliders ambushed the foursome at a mountainside....

Kanzeonbosatsu was informed by her assistant about Soutou & his men joining Homura's army but she already knew that because many were rebeling against Heaven. Though Soutou & his men were excellent soliders, (in Kanzeonbosatsu's opinion) they were stupid and useless. At Mt. Ryokai, Homura allowed Soutou & his men to join him provided if they are able to retrieve Sanzo's evil Sutras.

At the mountainside, one Soutou's men, Outo, checked the valley and reported that Goku and Gojyo were dead (based on their Gojyo's jacket and Goku's cloak). Soutou then sent Jikoku, Ryokushou and Sekieki to deal with Hakkai & Sanzo, smirking at the thought the two would never be able to get through their traps. Unfortunately, he was wrong as the two walked through the traps very effortlessly. Nevertheless, Jikoku, Ryokushou and Sekieki used smoke bombs, forcing Hakkai & Sanzo to separate. Hakkai tried to look for Sanzo but Ryokushou caught him and killed him through his bear-hugging technique.

From his place, Soutou observed Sanzo outsmarting Jikoku, Ryokushou and Sekieki and taking note of Sekieki's (who loves to use bombs) reckless actions. So, he decided to join them in case Sekieki blew Sanzo up (after all, what use would be the evil Sutra be if it's destroyed). Outou remained behind to watch the situation. Suddenly, he noticed Goku's cloak missing. Suspicious, he went down to investigate, walking right into Gojyo's trap.

Souto & his men caught up with Sanzo and surrounded him. Out of nowhere, Goku appeared and killed Jikoku. Hakkai (who pretended to be dead) too appeared and finished the shocked Ryokushou. Sanzo also killed Sekieki by shooting at his pouch that contained bombs. Gojyo showed up and said Outou was been dealt with. Souto, though stunned at the loss of his men, was still determined to fulfill his ambition. He fought with Goku but he lost and died. Before he died, he asked the foursome the reasons for his failure. They replied it was the bloodshed they had been through that sustained them.

Back at Mt. Ryokai, Homura knew that Souto & his men stood no chance against the foursome but he did so because, out of respect, he decided to let them fulfill their ambitions. Even though there were the ambitions of common soliders. top

Episode 32: Fake Star Strikes Back (道化師の誇り)

The fake foursome imposters (see Episode 10) were currently settling down at village. The fake Sanzo was a fried noodle seller, fake Hakkai his assistant, fake Gojyo odd-jobs worker and fake Goku a waiter at a restaurant. All seems well and peaceful, till the real Sanzo, Hakkai, Gojyo and Goku arrived. Each time the imposters saw them, they freaked out and hysterically fled, in fear that they might recognize them and thrashed them up. Yet, they all confessed they missed their days of imposing the real Sanzo & his gang. In the end, they decided to take back their 'lost pride' and imposed as them once more.

Late at night, the real foursome awoke to find an angry mob accusing them of petty little crimes. Outside, the imposters were rejoicing at the success of their payback. It was short-lived because Sanzo, Hakkai, Gojyo & Goku found them and gave them a beating. That wasn't the end because the villagers had them beaten up as well. Though bruised black and blue, the imposters felt much better because they had their pride back. Once again, they were interrupted and the imposters yelled at the intruders, claiming to be the legendary foursome.

However, the intruders happened to be Kougaji, Yaone, Dokukagaji and Lin... (Err.. don't have to mention what happened next!")   top

Episode 33: Faraway Dream (枯れた泪)

The four face an unusual snowstorm created by their opponent, a young demon with the power of ice. The young demon was Shouryu, who was taken in by Gyokumen Koshu (after she killed their parents). After undergoing a transformation (through science and magic), Gyokumen Koshu told him that she would free him and his sister (Shouen) provided if he could bring back Sanzo's Sutra. To ensure her own safety, she placed a talisman onto his chest, that instantly attached itself upon Shouryu's heart. Unknown to him, Gyokumen Koshu had sent Shouen (who discovered that Gyokumen had no intention to free them at all) to get the Holy Sutas from Homura. Distracted by his thoughts, Shouryu fell off the cliff after being shot by Sanzo.

Meanwhile, Homura was impressed with Shouen's abilities (the power of fire) and asked her to join him. Struggling with her inner conflicts, Shouen attacked him. Homura subdued her fireballs and tossed her aside, deciding to let her off since she's just a kid. Back to Shouryu, he had found the four and thrashed them up. Sanzo, though injured, questioned the boy's true intention. Shouryu replied that he wanted freedom. Sanzo mockingly laughed and used his Sutras & trapped Shouryu. Just then, Shouryu heard Shouen's cry and sensed her death. (As he had feared, Shouen (feeling Death was the only way out) attacked Homura who wasted no time in slaying her.) Strangely, Sanzo released him and told him if he wanted freedom, he must survive.

Heartbroken and in despair, Shouryu pulled out the talisman from his body. Immediately, his body was blown into pieces. Sanzo sighed, saying Shouryu was still a kid to think he could gain freedom by going to the next world.

As for Gyokumen Koshu, she couldn't be bothered with anything except painting her nails. top

Episode 34: Second Contact (闘神再び)

Homura decided to pay the foursome a little visit...

The four were resting at an inn, drinking, smoking and playing mahjong. After a while, Sanzo went out to buy cigarettes, Goku went along while Hakkai & Gojyo played cards. Suddenly, the entire inn collapsed (because somebody planted a bomb) and Sanzo & Goku attacked by a one of Homura's soliders. Luckily, Hakkai & Gojyo survived, however, they had to deal with another soliders. After a mini (and boring) fight, the two soliders were killed and the four faced Homura, Shien & Zeon.

They exchanged words (like a bunch of gangsters) for some time till Goku, impatient, attacked Homura, leaving the three to deal with Shien & Zeon. Mysteriously, Homura wished Goku to become stronger and just played along with him. Goku, seeing he was no match for Homura, thought of removing his headband. Homura (somehow read his thoughts) and encouraged him. Goku refused and attacked him again. As he did so, he heard Homura whispering to him to become stronger. Homura gave one punch and Goku fell to the ground, unconscious. Feeling that he had accomplished his task, Homura decided to withdraw. Zeon was annoyed but Shien obeyed, sadden by the chains Homura bound himself as the shackles on his wrists.

Later, Goku gained conscious. Sanzo, Gojyo & Hakkai were with him and all were feeling pissed off at their defeat. Goku, determined, swore to win Homura.  top

Episode 35: Solitude (孤独の魂)

Kougaji decided use a forbidden evil talisman to defeat Homura. However, the talisman had been sealed for a 100 years and sacrifice was required in order for the talisman to reach its full potential power...

Sanzo's gang had reached a fast-flowing river, thus, they were not able to cross over. Seeing the river brought Sanzo bitter memories of his childhood, tossing Hakkai a map, Sanzo wanted to take another (and longer) route. Meanwhile, Homura found what he had been searching for - the tomb of his love, Rinrei. Years ago, Homura had fallen in love with a goddess, Rinrei. Tragically, their love was forbidden (and Rinrei knows that very well) because no god was allowed to fall in love with a heretic (half-god half human). In the end, the High god punished Rinrei by transmigrating her into a human with a short life. As for Homura, he was chosen to succeed Nataku (who has shut himself in some kind of a coma) as the next fighting god. Seeing how much the gods had toyed him for their own use, Homura vowed to have his revenge. For years, he blamed himself for being unable to hear Renrei's soul. After paying his respects, Homura left and met Kougaji & his men.

Homura, in a bad mood, didn't want to fight (partially because he particularly liked Kougaji in some way) but Kougaji wasn't going to let him off. With the talisman (a blue crystal ball), Kougaji released the blue dragon Raikoryu that immediately consumed his men (the sacrifice) and combined itself with Kougaji, transforming him into one ugly blue-scaled demon. Still, Homura didn't want to fight him because he prefer fighting with opponents who used their own power & strength.

Out of the blue, Sanzo's party appeared, crashing down from a mountain road. Seeing them, Homura decided to pass the fight to them. Sanzo, very annoyed, told Homura off. Homura merely replied that he was the only one who could save Kougaji, who could hear his soul. The possessed Kougaji started to attack them. As Homura had anticipated, Kougaji was struggling mentally (the reasons for using Raikoryu & fighting). Taking the opportunity, Sanzo told Goku to destroy the blue crystal ball (which Hakkai suspected to be the key that binds Kougaji & Raikoruy) when he trapped Kougaji with his Sutras. The plan worked and Kougaji was set freed.

The four then continued with their journey, leaving one very upset Kougaji behind. top
