Episode 31

われし炎、『紅』の過去!

The cursed flame; Kurenai’s past

With Domon’s help, Recca and Mikagami had set aside their differences and defeated Neon & Aki together. However, Neon refused to surrender and decided to use her final move, even if it cost the lives of everybody in the battle dome...

Green light swirled from the Hokage maudough – Fukyu Waon, Clashing Harmony as it encircled Neon. Kagero explained that the maudough was storing energy till it had reached its maximum limit. Then, it would explode and everybody in the dome would die. The panicked audience ran out of the dome as the Fukyu Waon was shooting out green-coloured beams, which damaged the entrances. Thus, preventing anyone from escaping. Aki and Miki beseeched Neon to stop but a psychic barrier that was surrounding them. Neon wanted them to survive so that they could continue to serve Kurei. Everything that they did in the past, present and future was for Kurei.

Neon knew that Recca was Kurei’s younger brother. Still, she wanted to get rid of him so that he would not cause any more pain for Kurei. Recca wanted to know why Neon was risking her life to protect a murderer. Neon shut him off. What did he know about Kurei? Did he know his kindness? His pain? His sufferings? 4 years ago, Kurei had taken in Neon, Aki and Miki as his maids. Later, they found out that they were working for an underground organization but it didn’t matter to them as they were being well treated. Kurei had never showed his emotions or feelings to anyone except for a lady named Kurenai.

Sadly, their love affair was made known to Mori Kougan who instantly had Kurei punished. Kurenai pleaded Mori Kougan to stop. Mori Kougan told Kurei that Kurenai was a test to make sure that Kurei has totally abandoned his emotions and feelings. Since he failed to do so, he would do something about it. He took out a remote control, saying that he had placed an explosive device in Kurenai’s body if she happened to betray him and he would use it to drill an important lesson into Kurei’s mind. He pressed the button. An explosion was heard. Kurenai died, with her last words that she wished to be with Kurei forever. Mori Kougan told him that as long as Kurei shown his emotions, he would take everything away from him.

Kurei stood up and released his flame. With tears streaming down his face, he vowed to make Kurenai’s wish come true. Kurenai was transformed into an angel of flame. She flew toward him and placed her hand on left side of his face. Kurei blamed himself for her death and was willing to have a scar on his face as a reminder of their love. Neon was witnessing all of this and decided to join the Uruha 10. She vowed never again would Kurei had to suffer.

She had now collected all the energy that she need and was going to send everyone to heaven. As the rocks flew about, one of them headed toward Yanagi. Kukai appeared and smashed the rock to pieces. Saicho and Fujimaru appeared as well. The team Ku was prepared to protect Yanagi while Recca and Mikagami deal with Neon.

Recca struggled if whether he could stop this without killing Neon. Mikagami told him that even though he sympathized with Neon, he should not forget that she was willing to die for Kurei. Had he forgotten what Kurei did to Yanagi? Recca remembered a dragon that had the ability to create psychic barriers. He closed his eyes and concentrated. In spite of that, the dragon didn’t want to help at all. The circle surrounding Neon enlarged. Mikagami told Recca to get out of the way but Recca stayed still. The dragon asked Recca if he was willing to die. Recca replied that he would stay as he was until he agree to help him. Meanwhile, Mikagami decided to take action. He stabbed Ensui into the ground and summoned the icicle flow (Tsuramanai).

(The explanation: Ensui created icicles underneath and shoots out ice spikes onto the ceiling of the dome. The ice spikes on the ceiling absorbed moisture from the surrounding air and create more icicles, sending them down. This pattern would continue until the opponent had been defeated.) Neon was determined not to let Mikagami win and enhanced her power. Mikagami concentrated and sent huge ice spikes underneath that shot out so high that one of them knocked off Neon’s Fukyu Waon. The maudough flew in midair and a passing icicle destroyed it. Fukyu Waon played its last tune and the flute in Neon’s hand broke into pieces. Neon was unable to create the Reqieum. As she fell to the ice spikes below, she prayed for Kurei’s forgiveness for failing him.

Recca ran forward, intending to save Neon. The dragon asked him why did he want to save an enemy who wanted him dead. Recca replied that it didn’t matter because she was a human being and nobody deserved to die before their time. A tattoo burned on Recca’s arm. The dragon found him foolish even though he agree to help him. Recca summoned the 5th dragon – Madoka, the king of psychic barriers. Thus, Neon was saved.

Neon asked Recca why did he save her. Was she now to face the shame of defeat? Recca told her some people would be sad if she died. Besides, he would not get a good night’s sleep if he didn’t save her. Aki and Miki ran towards her and hugged her, crying with relief. Neon told the referee that she had lost since her maudough had been destroyed. Therefore, Hokage could proceed to the next match.

Before Uruha Oto walked away, Neon told Recca that she was still faithful to Kurei and would kill Recca if he ordered her to despite the fact that Recca had saved her. However, Recca was not bothered by it. While the Hokages celebrated their victory, the happy Recca jumped onto the annoyed Mikagami.
